Veliky Ustyug is an airport of regional importance located in the city of Veliky Ustyug, Vologda region.

The airport belongs to Vologda Aviation, which also operates passenger flights there on Yak-40 aircraft from the regional center twice a week.

History

Since 2011, repairs have been carried out to enlarge the runway and reconstruct the airport complex. In 2016, the airport was included in the federal program, according to which about 1.3 billion rubles will be allocated for reconstruction. Until 2019, Severstal Airlines operated passenger services on the routes Moscow—Cherepovets—Veliky Ustyug and St. Petersburg-Cherepovets—Veliky Ustyug.

In August 2019, the Governor of the Vologda Region announced that the reconstruction of the airport would be completed by August 20, 2020. The runway length will be increased to 1800 m, which will allow receiving L-410, Saab 2000 and Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft with tourists arriving in the "homeland" of Santa Claus. It was planned to organize direct flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major cities. Later, the completion date was postponed to the end of November.

The airport was opened after reconstruction on December 25, 2022. However, after that, regular flights continue to be operated only to the cities of the Vologda region.
